Getting Started
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply not like yourself, therapy can be a supportive space to explore that. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. Many people come to therapy for clarity, growth, or to better understand themselves and their relationships.
How do I get started?
You can reach out through the contact details on our website – phoenixtherapeutics.org. We’ll guide you through the next steps and help you find a therapist who feels like a good fit.
What issues do you help with?
We support individuals, couples, and families navigating a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, burnout, and feeling “stuck” or disconnected. For more specific information about each therapist’s background, approach, and areas of focus, please feel free to explore the individual therapist bios available on our website.
What if I’m not sure which therapist to choose?
Not at all. It’s okay if you’re unsure how to put your experience into words. Part of the process is helping you make sense of what you’re feeling.
Do I need to have a clear problem before starting therapy?
Not at all. It’s okay if you’re unsure how to put your experience into words. Part of the process is helping you make sense of what you’re feeling.
What to Expect
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know you, what’s been going on, what feels important, and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share everything right away. We move at your pace.
How often will we meet?
Most clients start with weekly sessions to build consistency and momentum. From there, we can adjust frequency based on your needs and goals.
How long does therapy take?
There’s no fixed timeline. Some clients come for a few months around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term work. We’ll regularly check in together to make sure therapy is meeting your needs.
Approach to Therapy
What is your approach to therapy?
Our work is relational, trauma-informed, and tailored to you. We draw from approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic (body-based) work to help you understand not just what you’re feeling, but why, and how to move forward with more clarity and compassion. For more specific information about each therapist’s background, approach, and areas of focus, please feel free to explore the individual therapist bios available on our website.
Will therapy feel intense or overwhelming?
Therapy can bring up meaningful emotions, but it should not feel unsafe or out of control. We prioritize creating a space where you feel supported, grounded, and able to go at a pace that feels manageable.
Do you give advice or tell me what to do?
Rather than giving direct advice, we help you explore your own thoughts, patterns, and choices so you can make decisions that feel aligned and sustainable for you.
Relationship & Couples Therapy
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. We work with couples experiencing communication challenges, conflict, emotional distance, trust concerns, and life transitions. For more specific information about each therapist’s background, approach, and areas of focus, please feel free to explore the individual therapist bios available on our website.
Do both partners need to be committed to therapy?
Ideally, both partners are open to the process, but it’s okay if one person feels more unsure at first. We create space for both perspectives without pressure or blame. We also offer discernment therapy to help bring clarity in the relationship and how each partner would like to move forward.
Can therapy help even if we’re not sure we want to stay together?
Yes. Therapy can help you gain clarity, understand patterns, and make thoughtful decisions, whether that leads to repair or separation.
Therapy Questions
What if I feel nervous or unsure about starting?
That’s completely normal. Many people feel some hesitation before their first session. You don’t have to feel “ready,” just willing to begin. The first step of reaching out is usually the hardest to take.
What Therapies do you use?
Our team is trained in a variety of therapies, including but not limited to EMDR, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and therapeutic tabletop role-playing games.
What if therapy brings up things I wasn’t expecting?
That can happen, and you won’t have to navigate it alone. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe and supportive for you.
Are you trauma-informed?
Yes, all of our therapists at Phoenix Therapeutics are trauma-informed. We take a holistic approach to trauma therapy and can work with you through a variety of modalities to support your healing.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?
Not every therapy experience is the right fit. Sometimes a different approach, therapist, or pace can make a meaningful difference.
